In august and for next year, what kinds of professional development training would you like to see at the high school? What about trainings designed for the k-12 district?
The most useful professional development experiences that I've taken part in were open-ended opportunities to collaborate with teachers from other small schools. Exposure to other teachers' ideas and methods is something that, for me, always seems to produce tangible results.
I would like some diversity training, specifically on Hispanic cultures. Also, I think something on classroom management district-wide would be helpful.
For me personally having some time to collaberate with Walt, and work on a 7-12 curriculum would be best. Also, to have some science specific professional development would be good. While some people had a positive experience with the PLC's we attempted with Perrydale last year, it was a huge flop for me. The professional development that I have benefited the most from has been science specific, such as attending the OSTA and NSTA conferences.
